EXCLUSIVE: Media Matters confirms student at center of Fox fueled Jennings controversy was of legal age
For several days now conservatives in the media have been on a witch-hunt for Kevin Jennings, the U.S. Department of Education’s director of the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools. Led by Fox News, the right-wing media have claimed that 21 years ago, when Jennings was a 24-year-old teacher at Concord Academy in Massachusetts, he "cover[ed] up statutory rape" by not reporting to authorities a conversation he had with a student who told him about being involved with an "older man."
They have attacked Jennings with homophobic, anti-gay rhetoric, falsely accused him of covering up or encouraging "statutory rape" and asked for his resignation or firing.
Media Matters for America has exclusively obtained the Massachusetts drivers’ license of the student confirming that at the time of the incident, he was at least sixteen years of age — the legal age of consent in Massachusetts.

The student was of legal consent at the time. So there was no rape.

Actually, yes it is a reputable source because they back up their claims with sources and links, unlike Fox "News" who just throw crap at the wall and hope it sticks. Media Matters comes along and knocks it down one by one.
I don’t care if they attack the source, because it shows their ignorance. Media Matters has a picture of the actual drivers license of this student and it shows he was 16 at the time he had sexual relations with that man, which at the time was considered legal consent in the state of Massachusetts.
One thing I am SURE OF IS THAT HANNITY DOES NOT LIE!
You will NEVER convince me of that…and his information is always TRUE and BACKED UP !

Wow, the answers so far are amazing. Why would you care that someone in the administration is being falsely accused of promoting statuatory rape? Media Matters is not impartial, as if FOX is? And, as the asker points out, they are providing evidence, so even if you disagree with the commentary that goes with it, the facts are there! Then there is the person who is so sure that Hannity does not lie, that they will not consider any evidence to the contrary!!!

Well, for the Bubbas out there: it’s NOT statutory rape if both parties are of legal age of consent (and both were) and it was consentual (it seems to have been: the kid never complained, rather it sounds more like bragging).
The only thing that I can think of is that the kid might have been questioned further, just to be assured that it wasn’t a faculty — or family — member involved. But perhaps even THAT would be unwarranted, given that both were ‘legal’ and the act not unlawful.
Polanski needs prison.

Why don’t all you people screaming that Media Matters is not reputable give old Maxim Lott a call or email…you see Media Matters just happens to have the Facebook Conversation that old Maxim had with the student where Maxim asked him to verify his age,,which the student did. I am sure old Maxim will be glad to tell you the truth.

Hasn’t it stuck you Fox News fans as a little odd that for almost three days now there has not been a WORD about Jennings on Fox News…either on the station or the website? For two weeks they pounded this story constantly and now nothing? Just after the student asks one of their reporters for a correction…which now three days later never came????
